Title: "Novel diagnostic and monitoring techniques in brain tumors: Liquid biopsy, advanced imaging and beyond"

Description: The diagnosis, monitoring and assessment of treatment response in central nervous system tumors is plagued by multiple challenges, such as the complexity of surgical sampling of the brain and spinal cord, or the difficulty distinguishing between treatment-related changes and tumor progression in routine surveillance imaging. In this talk, we will discuss novel diagnostic and monitoring tools that aim to bypass some of these difficulties, starting with liquid biopsies in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). We will focus on the existing and potential applications of CSF liquid biopsies in routine neurooncological practice, including initial diagnosis of brain tumors, tracking tumor evolution/response to treatment, and determination of tumor progression. We will then cover advanced imaging techniques, including MRI and PET modalities, that specifically target the distinction between tumor progression and treatment-related changes, or pseudoprogression. Finally, we will discuss how a combination of multiple modalities could be integrated in future clinical practice for accurate and minimally invasive diagnosis and monitoring of brain tumors.
